Where's Mike?

August 04, 2008

Where are you?

I am on the steps of the historic Little Mountain Elementary school enjoying the Little Mountain Reunion.

Who’s with you?

Lindsay Moore (Executive Director of the SC Design Arts Partnership), Joe Pinner (aka Mr. Knozit, aka Emperor of Little Mountain, aka WIS TV celebrity and SC institution!), Buddy Johnson (Mayor of Little Mountain) and Board member of Palmetto Trust

Why were you there?

The Little Mountain Reunion is an annual event that I have personally enjoyed for over 30 years. I grew up in Newberry County and attending the “oldest folk festival in SC” allows me to have a true reunion with my high school friends that I don’t get the opportunity to see during the year.

We are all standing outside of the school after viewing a wonderful film that was produced through a partnership with the Town of Little Mountain and The Design Arts Partnership. The film is a great tool for educating citizens and school children about the rich local history of their town. In fact, we will have a link to the film it as soon as it is available.

Any other news you want to share?

Yes, while I was there, the Palmetto Trust signed an option to purchase the Shealy-Guice House. This is a wonderful Victorian in the Historic district and we look forward to finding the right buyer to call it home and preserve this contributing property for future generations.  With this house under preservation easement, we can better assure the citizens of Little Mountain that their historic districts will not be compromised.

Where's Mike been prior to this visit? Find out here.
